[]1 John 2:28 & Philippians 2:12-17

And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence and courage, and at His coming not shrink back in shame before Him.

Wherefore, My beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in My presence only, but now much more in My absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.
Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Holding forth the Word of life; that ye may rejoice when the Messiah returns, that ye have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

[☨]Another Sunday's barren repast, another Mass without a fold, the Archbishop is captured by the prying lens upon the dingy dark floor. Not to be tempted by the Pharisees' returning of provisions, the sight of him is macerated, fasting in the daylight as the Lord bid him, taking what repast of brittle Capelli d'angelo in the eve. And not to speak ill of it, though his stomach balked at him, he rather filled the echoing church with his Roman lilt, perhaps, if anything, to deafen the silence that oft reminded him that he was alone.[☨]

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

[☨]Approaching the altar where the Cross still laid desolated and disgraced, with fists balled in contempt he saw it fit that he would pit himself against it and right it up once again.[☨]

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.

[☨]Readying himself as if he were about to run a mile, taking a shuddering breath, he bends at the knees and clutches at the arm of the grand cross; a heavy icon that weighted far more than his wispy frame.[☨]

I need thy presence every passing hour.
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

[☨]Gritting teeth behind viperous lips his tendons strain and scream as he pulls up on the burdensome stake and hauls it up half-way, his spindly legs shaking under the sheer force at which he was pushing.[☨]

I f..fear no foe, with thee.. at hand to bless;
ills have no weight, and tears not bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I tr.. triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

[☨]The wood moans as it's tall stature is pushed up against the stone wall, dust showering off the precipice and embracing arms that which the Lord was crucified upon. Swiftly kicking wooden blocks at the base that he had salvaged from chopping up one of the pews in the back with a bayonet that lies near the podium, he steps back panting heavily but a triumphant laugh hitching his hymn.[☨]

Ha! Haaahahahahaa! Ho..hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes!
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. . .

[☨]Abide with him indeed. Who's help did he need here? A smirk dances across his poisonous mouth, gloved hand wiping the soot from his face, yet only smearing it more across a sunken cheek. Taking just a moment to admire his work with a peaceful sigh, he moves to turn... only to hear the wood moan out load, and see then the shadow of the cross casting over him as it topples down upon him again.[☨]

[☨]A shrill, almost girlish cry is cut off when his heel steps back and onto the device itself.[☨]
